I was reading my friend NAZ’s blog today and this comment really hit home! I couldn’t resist sharing it with all of you. Please feel free to comment!

You want “real” change? It’s time to take the country back!
Obama says “John McCain wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years”.
McCain says “Obama wants to teach sex education to young children”
Fact: Blatant lies from both of them, the candidates know it, the media knows it, and now we the people know it.
The truth: McCain said he would keep troops in a “non combat” role for “as long as it takes” to ensure the safety of the citizens of America and Iraq. Obama supported a program to teach children about sexual predators.
Understand, this blog has nothing to do with nor is it asking for anyone’s opinion of their positions in either example. What is has to do with is the fact that there are numerous adds, comments, statements, etc. from BOTH candidates that are far more fiction than fact.
You want change? How about we the people stop knowingly allow politicians to openly lie and we accept it as “politics as usual”.
If lying is an accepted practice by us, then how can we ever expect there to be change? How dare us try to hold accountable anyone that we know is a liar. Are we truly that foolish of a society? I dare say if our children lied to us as often as Obama and McCain have lied in this campaign we would have long since punished the child. Had it been our friends we would no longer associate with them. From our politicians it’s business as usual and completely acceptable.
I actually heard a media report, which was later cited to me by a friend (an Obama supporter in defense of his candidate) that said “according to our research although both candidates have misrepresented the facts, it appears the McCain camp has mislead people to a higher degree.”
Allow me to put that in plain English for you. We should base our vote on who is the bigger liar.
Is it possible that I am the only one that is about to blow his cookies over the thought that we should expect change out of either one because even though he’s a liar, he lies less than the other? Why is the media even reporting such an atrocity? Where are the actual facts in the above statement? Is it not the very reporting of a simple opinion? I can assure you that when I heard that so called “news” I switched the channel and the exact same story was being reported with an opposite opinion of who was in fact the bigger liar. Why do we not have a lynchpin out for both of them and demanding the parties replace these candidates with some that have at least some concept of the truth?
You want change? Does the phrase “Honest Abe” mean anything to anyone?
And what ever happened to accountability and unbiased journalism? There was a day that a journalist would be tarred and feathered for actually reporting something that was not true. Now they report on lies, internet rumors, unsubstantiated statements, and do so citing “unidentified trusted sources”. People, the second you hear that phrase the next thing you hear is crap I assure you. The bias in the media coverage has been the most outrageous in this election as I have ever seen. The Obama supporter watches CNN, the McCain supporter watches FOX and for good reason.
You want change? How about we demand unbiased coverage from ALL channels? Give us just facts, not opinions so we can make our own decisions. Let’s make our decisions based on gathering all the facts with an open mind, without prejudice, without partisanship, and applying our own morals, ethics, and good common sense to arrive at our own individual decisions. Don’t allow the media or the politicians to sway your decisions with their own “spin” on the truth.
What’s even more frightening is I saw a poll today that 82% of responders would not change their votes regardless of the debates. This can only mean that we have made up our minds based upon the media’s biased reporting and the candidate’s statements, positions, and promises. Promises…. Please… Give me a break.. How can anyone have hard and fast made up their mind on who to support prior to any debates? Debates are the only raw forum which both candidates must step up and defend their idea’s, beliefs, prior decisions, etc. without the use of speech writers (McCain) and teleprompters (Obama).
So now we know that BOTH candidates have lied to us, the media that reports those lies slants the reporting of those lies to fit their own agenda. Yet we expect change….
Let’s look back a moment shall we…
George W Bush told us that Iraq was a valid immediate nuclear threat…. Lie
Bill Clinton “never had sexual relations with that woman”…….Lie
Bush Sr. said “read my lips no new taxes”……Lie
Guys, by the time our new president comes up for re-election it will represent twenty years of being lied too, knowing we are being lied too, and accepting those lies. Yet we expect change.
The definition of insanity is to continue to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result.
If we truly want change then we need to start paying attention to local elections. After all folks these are our future Senators, Governors, Congressman, and eventually Presidents. If we followed the lives of our politicians as closely as we do our sports hero’s we would be much better informed. Why don’t we?
I say if you have never held a job in the private sector you can’t be elected to public office. If you are a career politician you must go. How can we as a society expect our representatives in government to represent us properly if they have never walked in our shoes? They say “I feel the pain of the American worker” I say, how can you say that if you have never been an American worker? You want to feel our pain then try to raise two children with two working parents on an entry level wage while paying taxes, education expenses, and putting gas in your car at the same time! You want to represent me then you need to have started at a job, any job, work your way to a supervisory position, and then come talk to me about electing you. Don’t show up at my doorstep with your political science degree and tell me you know what I need or have been through. I dare any man to tell a woman during labor that he “knows what she’s going through” or “feels her pain”! I assure you she will jerk you out of your car through the exhaust pipe so you can truly feel her pain!
Stop allowing our politicians to lie to us about ANYTHING at ANY level.. You lie, you’re out it’s just that simple.
Stop allowing our media to have an opinion and force them to report just the facts. Let the advertisers of the products you buy know that you will stop purchasing their products if they continue to support a station that cannot deliver the news in an unbiased fashion.
Stop making up our minds on who to vote for because one is “not as bad as the other” and start demanding the parties put candidates forward that are truly worthy of the oval office.
You want REAL change? You’re not going to get it in this election. Unfortunately, that meal has been cooked already. We may still need to choose which plates were going to have for dinner but the ingredients that made the meal are already mixed.
Newsflash people, it starts with us not in Washington. Stop allowing people to lie to you, stop electing public officials with no life experience, and stop believing things are going to change magically.
Start with your own town, look at your public officials without regard to party affiliation, what are their qualifications for the job they hold, what promises did they make to get that job, and have they kept those promises. If not, elect someone who will. Take back your town! Then look at your county officials and do the same thing. Take back your county! Then turn your attention to your state and take back your state! If we ALL do our part to put in office people that actually understand what we need and want, then and only then can we expect change. Once we have local, county, and state public officials that are trustworthy and looking out for our best interest, we can then TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!
Stop the name calling, mudslinging, and exchanges in anger that do nothing more than shut people down and make them stop listening and learning and begin an open minded non partisan discussion with people who have different views then you. Open your minds, get involved, and FORCE change. Stop expecting somebody to change it for you or stop whining when things don’t change!
